I have a few questions for some of you who know the ropes about this crappy lung disease..Is it common to have the chest tightness all the time? Am I ever gonna feel like I can take a complete full breath? What about swelling in your legs? I have gained 40 lbs since I quite smoking and I know that doesn't help matters.. I have started to do some at the gym a couple classes a week..I don't see a lot of improvement yet which makes it frustrating as heck!! I have another lung function test… read more
Well, having been dealing with this illness over 12 years, you will find you do have limits, it comes on you slow, but sure. I could work with my horses, ride them, and didn't pay much attention to it in the beganing, but it will take more of your freedoms as time go on. It's up to you to keep a positive attitude, and make the best of it... I realized that just the fact, that we grow old, we all have to have something wear out in our bodies, we all have to die of something,,,,we are chosen for Copd.. You can still enjoy your family, and other thing important to you, but you have limits..... Having to stop dong things are the biggest problem we have to deal with, just the little things, take lots of energy...that is very depressing, and in thinking and dwelling on loss of things, just be thankful, you can do things........ It's slow in progressing, so enjoy your life, but, take care? God bless you, in cdealing with .
I have just done a rehab course and was actually amazed at what I could do rather than what I couldn't as I was reluctant to do a lot or go out. The Cate and help I got was amazing so if you get the chance to go to these things I would advise it plus the information is invaluable.
Check with your doc about starting a really good, daily exercise program and if you get the go-ahead, go for it. It will help with the weight gain, and will help you get in better shape in general, which will make doing things much easier. Heart problems don't always go hand in hand, but many people with COPD do have heart issues. Get yourself fully checked out, and especially talk with the doc about what you can do to help yourself.
I lost over 100 pounds with an aggressive exercise and diet program, so I know where you're coming from. My lung function is about a third that of someone my age, height, weight and sex, so I'm in the severe stage of the disease. I think you'll find that if you show your doc that you're willing to do the things you can do to help yourself, he and his staff can become your biggest fans.
Rene , take one day at a time , find a specialist you can open up to & WILL EXPLAIN to you what your situation is ! What you must learn is to avoid a Flare Up as in most cases you do not get back the lung function you had ~ just wish I had been told a year ago ~ Really take meds as directed to prevent ~ we can not undo what has happened ~ Good Luck from Aus .
Boy, the more I'm here, the more I hear, I to have problems in the same way, I get a prescription, polyethylene glycol 3350, and it works great, it's compared to miralax..... I take a table spoon every other day, and it works.... Felt I was in this by my self.... Thanks,,,, God bless you all
