Well when you panic, your heart, says, we are having a run away,,, let go, and it takes up on high, you start breathing real fast, and end up hiperventalating, getting lite headed, so it's best to just say,,,, hey, I'm going to be ok, slow down your breathing, in hale thru your nose, and exhale thou your mouth. And you will be fine.... I've DELT with for 15 years, getting short of breath, makes you do some ugly thoughts, and it scares you.... But, when you see it happening.... Just stop. Breath deep breaths, slowly, and it will calm down,,,, it's one of the evils of our sickness,,,,, best of luck, and God bless

Hi sweetie, I have always had anxiety, and panic attacks. I use the pursed lip technique. When I feel it coming on I get my little hand held fan. The air lets me breath easier. I also use a technique that can also work. It's a mind over matter. As you do the breathing think of 5 different colors, 5 different places you can relax at (beach etc) think of 5 people who are close to you. This switches your mind to think about other things instead of the panic. My husband is stage 4 and he has severe panic. He takes Lorazepam when he feels it coming on. I hope I have helped.

I got to thinking of those things too. But I've been in stage 4 for about 5 years, so I don't worry about the dying, that will happen, when the time comes, haven't been there, but, I'm sure, when the time comes, we will know it. I lost my mom, dad, and sister to copd, each of them, had a different way, of departing ".. We can't let that time come worry us, because we are born, and have a time to die.... Every one has that to do. So worring about it, will just cause you unwanted depression, and others around you unhappy..... I've been dealing with this for 15 years, had to slow down, but, still enjoy my grand kids, and great grand babies, my dog, and watching the kids and family playing with their horses, going to look at the lake, and can still smile.... Sometimes..... Be thankful, you have a new day, when you open your eyes,,, Godbless you in your travels

It is hard to breathe the opposite of what you feel like doing(gasping) but the idea is to slow down and blow out longer than you breath in.
