I was put in it at 74%. But I would think 80 would qualify. I know if I try to maneuver around at 80% I don't give very far

Yes,if under 88%, you do need oxygen. The sooner you go on oxygen the better you will feel.Your heart, brains, lungs and other organs will be much better too

The standard is 85 % and you qualify for 02. Please find a doctor who specializes in pulmonary disease and see him / her ASAP . If you are very breathless please go to ER , they can also refer you to a specialist and give you the care you need right now . GP's are for the most part, wonderful but we need specialists as well .

Barbara, you're right about insurance companies, though most of them accept and use the Medicare standard. It's certainly too bad yours is one that doesn't. I agree with Calvin: get your doc to help you appeal the decision.

And to whoever made the point that O2 is flammable; it's not flammable and won't burn by itself. However, adding O2 to a fire will make the fire burn faster and hotter. You just need to be careful around open flames. Many people who use gas stoves put the cannula down their backs to avoid getting it close to the flame. Be careful, but know the facts so you take appropriate precautions but don't go too far.
