After you have the test how long does it take to let you know if you'll need a c-pap
@A MyCOPDTeam Member, snoring is not the only reason to need or use a CPAP or BIPAP device. I stop breathing in my sleep and have congestive heart disease on top of my asthma and COPD! I need my CPAP device to correct my breathing and it really works. I feel as if I have actually rested during my sleeping hours and my husband is no longer scared I might stop breathing laying next to him. I got my script and picked up my CPAP Device 2-3 daysi after my study was completed. I had to switch masks about 5 times to get one that was easiest to use and most comfortable for me! Be blessed with yours and take your time choosing the most comfortable one for you. Get some KY Jelly and put a little bit inside your nose and it might make your breathing easier and lessen the incidence of sore nose from the machine. If your husband or wife can hear air escaping from your mask, it is not fitted properly. It should be almost silent and the sound of the air is comforting to me. Please let me know how your study and fitting turn out. I will be praying for your outcome. Be blessed, and dear friend, "Breathe Easy" Ms. Lizz
you will know right away if you need one but they will have to do another sleep study to find the right pressure setting for you they don't do that the same night usually
when I was first dx I was having 103 episodes an hour last year with bi pap and 5 litters 02 sleeping in a chair I was still having 54 an hour that's when they discovered I had central apnea as well as obstructive and on a new machine down to 2-4 an hour
@A MyCOPDTeam Member My experience was a little different to @A MyCOPDTeam Member. I started the night sleeping as I used to sleep (without any machines or anything else) except the leads hooked up to me. About 2 hours into my sleep, the technician came in & put a nose mask on me & monitored me for a while. She came back a short while later & put a chin strap on me to keep my mouth closed.
I received my CPAP results from my technician in the form of a prescription before I left the hospital the next morning. She also sent a copy to my pulmo doc. He discussed my results at my very next appt. which was a couple of weeks after the sleep study & sent my prescription on to the Sleep Centre, who ordered my machine. They contacted me when my machine arrived & I went in for a fitting & a demonstration on how it worked. I had a follow up appt. a couple weeks later to discuss any problems (make adjustments to my mask) & then I moved to Wpg.
I guess it depends on how busy the lab and the specialist is. The Cpap is a blessing, but now I wonder if I am a CO2 Retainer, because I have a hard time with shortness of breath.
