Losing Weight Due To Excercise
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi Everyone,

I've attended pulmonary rehab and excercising on my own and lost 3 or so lbs . I've always been very slim and had been borderline normal weight. The RT made a remark when I started to not lose any wieght. How is that possible if your excercising?

Star, most researchers and clinicians agree that the steroids in our inhalers have very little effect on weight gain. Taking steroids orally is another issue, and that can cause weight gain. If you're not on oral steroids, chances are quite good that any weight gain is due to inactivity and exercise rather than the inhaled steroid. Unfortunately, calories in have to equal calories out in order to avoid weight gain. With less and less activity that becomes difficult.

I wish that I was the weight that I thought was fat the first time. Does that make sense?

My back is horrible and my breathing isn,t much better. I have had all the tests, thyroid, diabetes and ones I can't even pronounce. I also have had idiopathic edema in reverse for around 43 years. no cure. so when I lose a few pounds, I am elated. I am going to look into foods that contain gluten. It causes belly bloating, gas, and stomach fat if you are intolerant.

Most of our Copd meds have steroids in them
Which makes us gain weight
Before Copd I never weighted over 123 pounds and I was expecting
Now I can't get below 134 lbs
I watch what I eat
I exercise
Nothing works
I don't give up
I just don't let it stress me anymore
Good luck
Slow and steady we go
In my prayers
