I have been offered a lung transplant by the Prince Charles Hospital Brisbane. I have done the evaluation will be listed in December I really would like to get it done but I am scared that I might be signing my own death Warrant. So I suppose my question is if given the opportunity how many of you would have it done. Ive been told that life expectancy is up to 5 yrs. I had a double lung transplant 6 months ago. I feel great and can breath again. I was in pretty bad shape so I was willing to try it. I didn't have much of a future without it. Would I do it again, Absolutely
thats a hard one , i know a guy who had a lung transplant (both of them) he's 63 and his new lungs are 20, he's off o2 all breathing meds, is doing well, 6 months after transplant, doing every thing he did as a younger healthy man,but he is now on 17 anti rejection pills a day
Don't know much about lung transplants but wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery
In the US, people aren't listed until they have been judged to have less than two years to live without one. That's quite a difference. If it was a toss-up, I think I'd probably stick with things as they are. I do know people who've had transplants, but they've all been judged to have less than two years to live without it. Most of the people I know have done very well; a few have died. Given the chance for three more good years (and a number of people I know have lived way beyond the five year average) with a TX , I'd definitely take it.
They do make it clear that you basically trade one set of problems for another.
Good for you. Congratulations
