I've heard of mucinex, my doctor was not too enthused by it though. I do have kidney disease, I have a cough med. Coriciden HBP, but I always dilute the dosage of anything I take. I've thought of doing the same with mucinex. For now I'm taking an antibiotic so will probably not add it to my "diet".
My respiratory doctors have advised me medical research has shown that the only expectorant to be effective in COPD patients is Carbocisteine (5-carboxymethyl L-cysteine) aka Mucodyne. (not the same thing as mucinex). I use it whenever I have an exacerbation of symptoms and do find it helps to make coughing more productive (so phlegm is loosened).
Carbocisteine is only available on prescription in the UK.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member my doctors have told me to take muscinex and it helps me. That being said your doctor is the guy with the degree and he knows what your health issues are plus the medications you are on SOOOO I would listen to the professional. They get the big bucks for a reason. Lol Listen to your dr or get a second opinion from another doctor.
yes it is very good for getting rid of phlegm
