Of course. People do it all the time. An exacerbation is any worsening of your condition that requires additional medical interventions, so it could just be taking antibiotics at home or it could mean hospitalization. The key is to catch it quickly and begin intervention immediately. I haven't been hospitalized for anything since 2003.

That's why I encourage people to talk with their docs about keeping antibiotics and prednisone on hand and developing an agreement with the doc about when they start taking additional meds when they get something respiratory. Develop this kind of relationship with your doc and you could stay out of the hospital forever.

Good morning everyone
Hope you all slept well
I keep a back up of antibiotics and prednisone with me at all times

I don't mow the grass anymore
If I hear a mower running
I don't even go outside
If I have to
I wear a mask 😷

I keep my house closed up
Too many things are in the outside air
I don't want it in the house
I also have air purifiers in every room
I clean the filters weekly

Hope everyone has a safe and happy day
Slow and steady we go
Prayers go out for us all
Never alone

Hi Nicklass. You have to stop overworking your body and pace yourself.. Guess I am more aware because I am alone as well no one would be able to help me so its up to me to be vigilant. I think before attempting anything. Can I do this ok without an attack. If not I do a little bit in stages. Seems to work. Then other times completely forget and end up having an attack...Blacking out would be a plus for me because I hate the attacks happening.COPD is horrible.

I have them a lot and count to 24 slowly . Breathing as was taught. The worse I had I counted to 45 and really was scared. Take anxiety meds now that helps and also monitor what I do. Never passed out yet and hope I never do. The worse thing is not having access to my ventolin which is usually way out of reach and I cannot move to get it. Sometimes I carry it with me around the house. Always when I go out for sure. This COPD is horrible but you just have to be aware all the time what things u do. Hugs everyone for a good 2017. I am in my 14th year with this disease and still, here grumbling.

Yep, I have gone both ways! you need to give up mowing the grass.....no wonder you had a flare-up! When they start mowing the grass in my area I turn on the A/C. Grass is ssooooo bad for your lungs.
