Not one for balancing, but real exercises for seniors...I hate using that word! But have to face the facts...LOL
Living better with copd on u tube
This is true! You have to want to see results and you will!
Here's a website that gives you the basic of pulmonary rehabilitation that you can do on your own. As someone who never did a formal PR program, I will tell you that it's important to learn proper breathing techniques and talk with your doc especially if you're on supplementary O2 so that you keep your O2 sats where they need to be. Your doc needs to know what you plan to do and give you the go ahead. After that, it's totally up to you.
The basics are aerobic exercise and strength training. You need aerobic exercise at least 30 minutes ever day and your goal initially is to do 30 minutes without stopping. Most of us can't do that so we start where we are, as slow as possible and we go from there. Every two or three days we add another minute or two to how long we go before we have to stop until we can do 30 minutes. The point is to build endurance and learn that you can work through your SOB; it won't kill you and you can go on. Then you can add speed, time or distance.
Strengthening needs to include work on the upper. lower and core muscle groups. Your can use weights, resistance bands or swiss balls; whatever trips your trigger. You need to work each group about 30 minutes every other day. Google strength training and you'll find more ideas than you can possibly do.
You have to want this and you have to be willing to put in the time and effort. I guarantee that you will find it will make a difference in how you feel, how much your can do and how comfortably, and y6ou'll enjoy life a lot more.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member Yes I probably won't get old too soon yet..I don't feel old and I'm sure you don't either .lol..Thanks for the info on Burke Institute..
65 is barely a senior my dear. I will be 83 in a couple of weeks and didn't start to get old until I was 75 - somehow I don't think you will either. Maybe its the sense of humour? I like the youtube exercises at the Burke Institute. Just go to you tube and ask for COPD - lots of them to follow.
