Many people with COPD are overweight when diagnosed, often because they've been leading very sedentary lives, don't exercise and take in more calories n they burn. The only way to lose weight is to take in fewer calorie than you burn. So eating less is critical. I would venture a guess that unless you are bedridden, there are ways for you to exercise. check with your doc and ask for a referral to pulmonary rehab or to physical therapy. Get a list of exercises you can do at home and get started. Remember, calories in have to be less than calories out.
I've done this. Over 18 months in 2003-4, I went on a 1200-1500 calorie diet and began a very aggressive exercise program and lost over 100 pounds. When I started my FEV1 was 16%, so it can be done, regardless of where you are in the progression of the disease.
Proud of you. I have to watch the scales also. It gets away from me at times. It just my life is sedate and used to be so active.
Proud of you. I got up to 227 and managed to drop down to 192. I have now jumped up to 204. Seasaw action trying to drop down again. My cloths mixed sizes. :). It's lac of exercise in this cold weather.
I gained awful at the weight got up to 217 I cut out sugar completely I mean no snacks until less it's sugar free and then not much of that..I am at 172 now it took like 2 months to really see the difference but it has worked for me.
I have gained 2 stone since in 2 years and I eat healthy. Make most of my meals from scratch. I think it's the medication. Also not being able 2 excercise .
