My husband who has severe COPD and mild dementia does not seem to have a problem with his breathing when he is sitting down however the moment he walks 10 paces or even eating dinner he get very breathless, He has done all the courses however does not do much exercise etc. As I am at work most days and not there to nudge him along I think he forgets due to the dementia. He is also prone to sleeping a lot during the day and then can not sleep during the night. Any help or suggestions to improve… read more
Take him to the doctor, and tell them everything going on, also if he s prone Togo to sleep, just may have narcolepsy, so he pay have to sleep study done.
I've done a sleep study, worse night ever. Wires hooked up everywhere and had to call them when I needed to us the bathroom. The results said I didn't have sleep apthany.(spelling)
What about setting an alarm clock a bit away from him so he has to wake up and go put it off. Just a suggestion, sorry can't think of anything more useful.
Have taken him to the doctor numerous times and he says not a lot more that they can do but has made a referral to the respiritory clinic at the hospital so maybe they will be able to help with the breathing. He does have a sleep disorder but doctor doesn't think he will cope with the breathing apparatus but thank you for your kind thoughts.
Thank you Miriam for replying, We don't have memory cafes in NZ but we do have places he could go to once a week but because he gets so breathless he will not go. Will keep trying to get him to get involved with other people as you are correct, meeting and associating with others would help him heaps.
