Copd Flare Up
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had problems breathing with clear/white mucus in throat and nose bunged up to find out I am having a copd flare. The out if hours doctor prescribed a weeks cours of prednisone steroid. I don't know the best way to avoid these flare ups yet though. I only have copd 2 at the moment and had it for 3 years now.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member.hello. My recommendation is to ask your doctor about taking Mucinex, it does help with the phlegm. I do know some take big doses of lt. some sinus meds also have it added. It's worth a try. One has to figure out what works . Good luck and God Bless

Or at least get a small fan blowing towards the smoker. Maybe will help a little.

COPD is a combination of both emphysema and chronic bronchitis, so you probably have both of those. As for avoiding exacerbations, there are a number of things I would recommend. First of all, avoid people with bugs, grandchildren being the worst of those. They are little germ incubators, so don't see them if they have anything the even hints of respiratory. Secondly, talk with your doc about a good exercise program; the stronger you are, the harder it is for a bug to take you down. Get your flu and pneumonia shots. Get your weight as close to normal as possible. These things work for me most of the time, and since I travel a lot. Get yourself in the best shape you can manage and work to keep yourself there. You'll probably find that you'll be less susceptible to whatever comes along.

Not nice is being very kind. Some would say that it amounts to abuse and neglect at best and possibly manslaughter at worst. I realize he's your husband, but it doesn't change the fact that he is endangering your life by smoking around you.
