Im not sure about all causes of infections, but in my particular case I got an infection and fungus last April that put me in the hospital necessitating a chest tube and multiple antibiotics for 2 weeks. Within days of being on a course of antibiotics I would get ill again. Finally, in July I was referred to an Infectuous Disease Specialist after my PCP and surgeon could not find the cause of my recurrent infections...staph, strep and fungus. After a couple of appointments, he was sure there was an undiagnosed reason. He did blood cultures that required over a month to show slow growing bacteria. Sure enough, at the same time I started breaking out in what I thought were boils, I tested positive for Nocardia, bacteria found in dirt. Quite a blow because I love to garden. Fast forward to now, I am still on daily antibiotics, no longer digging in the dirt or gardening and have given away all my house plants. I will have another CT and blood work done in April to see if I am clear, or if I need to continue on Meds. I take all my other COPD mess, regularly exercise and walk a lot. But, no other infections have bothered me to this point. I am so grateful!
So, my advice is to be diligent when seeing your doctors. They don't always have all the answers, but in some cases they nail the problem. Hang in there, and know that there are people who you don't know personally, but care very much and truly understand the frustration you feel. I am one of those people.
Take care. Peace...and breathe easy.
I'd go to the clinic and least get evaluated for a TX. You'll get the best physical exam you've ever had and if nothing else, you'll learn a lot about your disease. They'll find anything that might interfere with a TX, ad let you know what you'll need to do in order to qualify. Once you have all the information you can decide whether or not to pursue a TX.
please search on the internet on the benefits of taking raw unprocessed honey every day - builds the immune system and is also been known to be used as antibiotic - research and make own decision and /or ask your dr
I forgot to mention that I'm at or nearing end stage copd and am on oxygen 24/7. I have a Pulmonologist and she said I'm on the maximum medications they can give me for maintenance. She has also referred me to the Stanford lung transplant clinic.
years ago they were so careful about when I could take prednisone ,, now I get it any time I ask I'm in stage 3
