Oxygen Level
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

2 years ago I was diagnosed with severe C.O.P.D. I have been on advire twice daily and Spiriva once daily. I have been on 2 level on my oxygen machine when I am not busy and 4 when I am active. Last week I was tested again (walking around ) and they lowered my oxygen to when I am still I don't need it and when I am active I need leval 2 on my machine. Has this ever happened to anyone else ?Thanks

Sure. As you get stronger and you build muscle, you use less O2. If you don't have one, begin a daily exercise program and really push yourself. You'll be surprised at what you can do.

Being active is great and it keeps you from being socially isolated, but being active is different from having a regular, daily, consistent and aggressive exercise program. You do the exercise program every day because that's what allows you to be active.

If you're not exercising, your ability to be active will diminish on a regular basis and you'll have significant problems over time.

You are really doing great , stay active and you will continue to do even better , try to avoid being around sick people , that is our biggest danger especially during Flu season .

When I am having a flare up though, I don't have the strength to engage in real exercise. Maybe it is age related too since I am in my 79th year now. Don't know. Riding the stationery bike for a half hour seems to work best for me when I am able to do so.

Yes , I was on # 2 for 24/7 for 3 mo. then only on # 2 when active , more then walking. Have you been to COPD rehab. ,if not GO , they teach you how to breath right.
