Sadie, you should be checking your phlegm every time you cough it up for color, thickness and amount. A change could mean problems.

Phlegm is the mucus that you cough up and spit out of your mouth.

I think our lungs produce phlegm to protect our lungs. But, I'm not sure. I only know that when I smoked, I had phlegm all the time. Now I don't. I only get phlegm when I'm sick.

What changes in the phlegm
Should we be looking for. I cough up alot of it, especially in the morning, which is very thick, almost every time I cough I have it, but not as thick.

I use generic mucous tablets, i get those at walmart or the dollar store. If congested use the DM one. A doctor clued me on it years ago. No diffrent than taking robatussion.
