Nicotine Addiction
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know most of us are battling this all the time. I use nicotine lozenges and vaping.
Wondering how all of you that are trying to stay smoke free are managing.

I have COPD, was hospitalized for 8 days with the flu. Of course, no cigarettes is the hospital and actually have had no urges for one now that I am home. I drank plenty of water in hospital and got all the nicotine out of my sys
tem.

Quite an inspiring story. I'm smoke free now. But, there was no intervention as you describe. I still sometimes really crave a cigarette. I still have what I decided was the last pack I'd ever buy. When the craving is too intense, I light up one of those old, nasty cigarettes. They're so stale that a couple puffs makes me put the icky thing out and I'm over it. Besides that, since I've quit, I rarely need to be in the hospital with an exacerbation. It had gotten to the point where I was hospitalized at least once a month. I hate the hospital. That also serves as inspiration to stay away from them.
I like your story better. 🙂

I could breath or smoke is the way I looked at it.
I also give thanks to God that I'm free, especially when I dream about smoking. It is so real.

My first stay in hospital 4 years ago cured me of smoking .I was in for 15 days with Pneumonia on a COPD ward and i was the fittest one on the ward.Seeing how ill the other patients were and what i could expect if i carried on smoking made giving up easy. I had tried quitting for the past 10 years without success before that stay in hospital.
