COPD With Atrial Fibrulation
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was put on oxygen full time in January 2015. I finally quit smoking and managed to get off oxygen except for overnight.. I then started having chest pain and had to have 3 stents put in my heart. After that I developed Atrial Fibrulation and my cardiologist put me on Metoprolol to try to control the Afib, but it made my breathing much worse and I ended up back on oxygen full time. He then switched the Metoprolol to Sotalol which improved my breathing some but is still ,causing major problems… read more

Metoprolol is an good medication to help BP and can slow your heartrate and bloodpressure too much but is not recommended for anyone with respiratory conditions because it leads to wheezing and other breathing difficulties Not familiar with the other med you mentiond A had a bout with afib and doctor had me wear a Holter monitor for 24hrs to measure different electical waves and skipped heartbeats. A really good test you might suggestto your cardiologist. Another thing that can cause Afib is if your on dietetic (water pill) they can mess up your potassium levels and send your heart into irregular rhythms He took me off lasix and have not had a problem since Good Luck Try to get that Holter monitor its easy to use and can detail a lot of info about your secific Afib DAH

Talk with your doc about this. Tell him about the headaches and ask if there's something else you can try. Why suffer in silence. He works for you.

My heart rate stays around 90. Dr. J..says he usually only has to do one..but..not me of course..one year after the first one he did another. Then 6 months another one. First one on left side of heart..second one on lower right.. Third one on upper right side.. Finally worked.. He said the only thing left after that is difublitor or pacemaker. Imagine that.. At first they tried adenosine worked at first but not for long. Used my pulse oxy to watch my self carefully. Guess you'd say i saved my life. Hope this helps someone..was SOB alot.. Oh by the way he also informed me that this is referred to as a teenagers disease. Because most kids that do alot of sports activity dont realize thay have this heart rate condition. And there is no way of detecting it before. They run and die on the field and no one know why.....guess I'm done for they day. It is really a pleasure to be here. Feels good to tell somebody..

Have you worn a Holter monitor to see what the electric signals to your heart are doing
Just electrodes and a recorder you wear for 24hrs gives cardiologists lots of info about type of Afib Best Wishes DAH

I have A-fib which is a result of PAH. I take a med once a day that slows down the heart rate. I was on blood thinners, but now only use a 81mg aspirin daily. My blood thinner caused a small problem with my breast to elevate to Necrosis and when my old doctor kept putting me back on blood thinner after each surgery(first 3) it elevated the necrosis so (not able to heal properly) much that I had an additional 3 surgeries, one just last month. I have not taken a blood thinner since December per my surgeon at Moffit, and no I do not have cancer, but he was 3rd and only surgeon who could figure out what was going on. My 3rd surgery I was practically sliced in half from back to front on both sides. Scares me when I hear someone say they take blood thinners. I still have A-fib, can actually feel it, but when I feel it, I just slow up on what I am doing and it passes. Saw my cardio doctor the other day and says so far so good. Ya!!!!!
