A GP diagnosed me with COPD in 2005 or 2006. I was given no treatment. In 2014 I had a spirometry test and was determined to be Stage 1. A year later I was Stage 2, with 75% capacity. At that point, my doctor left and I was assigned to another doctor from the same practice. I made him aware of my diagnosis. He has ordered no tests or medications. I have had 2 bronchial infections in the past 4 years which were taken care of by antibiotics. I do not cough or wheeze since quitting smoking. I saw a… read more

Yes, I think you should see a pulmonologist. You need to have spirometry or a PFT and possibly a CT scan to correctly diagnose your COPD. A chest X-ray isn't a diagnostic tool used or COPD and a good pulmonologist wouldn't have used it. You have clearly had a sleep study, or you wouldn't be using a c-pap machine. One you have a good diagnosis, th you can ask bout appropriate medications.

yes ur doc should have ordered tests. I had exploratory surgery for fibroids and my stats bottomed out and I died and they brought me back. Of course I was put in the hospital for a week;would not let me out because my fingers were an ash color. I got up and was walking down the hall and the nurse scolded me and took oxy level and it was 78%. They took 5 tubes of blood from my wrist and a CT scan and was diagnosed with COPD that was in 2012 before went to the hospital I had decided to quit smoking. Its been 5 yrs. and 2 months since I quit. I was finally let go from the hospital with oxy and nebulizer. $58,000 hospital which was paid with BCBS and medicare;didnt have to pay a dime. I was lucky.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member, ask your doctor to refer you to hospital for lung function test. sometimes they just forget, but it is important to have one at least every 2 years. Have you got a tester at home, and do you keep a note of what your breathing is each day. If so take it to the dr, show him.
