I"m a 75 year old male with a history of COPD and lung cancer. My cancer is under control. I have a low 02 level. I am on oxygen. Should I ask my doctor about taking prednisone to help me breathe better.
yes, my doctor also told me i should be on daily steroids (i am stage 4 copd) but i am not going to take them for same reason. i don't need anymore issues!! i also don't do colonoscopy, mammogram, etc). what is,the point? if they find something, i couldn't handle the surgery (and when i tell docs this, they just look at me and nod slightly). cheers...here's to you and me and everyone else on here! 🍹
i would talk with your dr about the pro's and cons of prednisone. I can't take it, but i know 2 men that have taken it and they gained A LOT of weight, which the drs say have nothing to do with it...i ain't buying that. it may reduce inflamation in your bronchial tubes but it can't be any easier to breath when you are heavier.
I have stage 4 copd and my Dr. dont want me to take prednisone all the time its hard on your kidneys and other organs
You can certainly ask; I don't know what effect prednisone would have with lung cancer. Basically it reduces inflammation in the lungs and I don't know if lung cancer causes inflammation.
I use prednisone on a short-term with an exacerbation only. I don't believe it is to be used to help breathe easier as our inhalers and nebulizer treatments are designed to help in our breathing easier. Heavy doses of prednisone will cause what is termed a round face and weight gain which many people experience who are on daily prednisone for long periods of time.
