Blood Gas/co2 Levels
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is there any way to prevent, or help co2 levels from getting so high?

Pursed Lip Breathing will help when you're exercising or just sitting. That long exhale helps blow off the accumulated CO2. If you are retaining CO2 beyond where PLB will help by itself, use of a Bi-Pap machine at night will certainly help and often does the trick. If that's not quite doing it, the Trilogy can be used both at night and during the day and generally works quite well for most people. Talk with your pulmo about your particular situation and what might work best for you.

Thank you. That has bern the original, so far. My mom is still in the hospital. Almost two weeks now. The bi-pap mask is so uncomfortable for her, but she agrees, it's better then then the ventilator. I coach her with her breathing, and remindi her to purse her lips. We inhale for two seconds, then breathe out for four. She will need a bi-pap mask when she get's home. Wonder if there is a more comfortable brand out there? Thanks again for responding. Hope you are doing well. Have a good night.
