Susan's got it right. If you have something respiratory, you need to call your doc and get treatment quickly. Trying to tough it out with OTC stuff is a good way to land in the hospital. Staying out of the hospital is one of our main goals, and you do that by having an action plan worked out with your doc so you know exactly what to do BEFORE you don't have a choice except to go to the ER. That's too late.

If you think you have a chest infection you should call your pulmonary doctor and explain you are having a flare-up. If you have COPD you need antibiotics and likely prednisone for the inflammation.
