Do You Find Pulmonary Therapy Helpful?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I have been in pulmonary rehab twice a week for about 5 months. I was hesitant at first but now after almost completing the program I found it to be extremely beneficial. If his is something your insurance covers, Go For It! The facility I attended was fantastic, you are monitored when you arrive, O2 level, BP and weighed in :( .You are checked twice more during your session. . A pace is set for you and adjusted according to the severity of your condition. I didn't think I would like it, but… read more

The pulmonary rehab program is a good program. You are monitored for O2 level when you are checked in. We have exercises to do on a daily basis, plus we are asked if we hurt any where and if we took all of our medications. Then we each have different equipment that we are assigned to use. As we get stronger, and our resistance is up, the time is raised by 5 minutes and the the weights are increased. Our O2 levels are checked after 5 minutes on each machine and about 2 minutes before we are done with each piece of equipment. We are taught to breath the correct way while we are exercising. I have three more sessions left, I am turnilng in the paperwork for a scholarship to attend more classes free.

A good PR program should teach you that even if you get yourself really SOB, all you need to do is slow down or stop and breathe properly, so there's no need to panic if you do get SOB anywhere. The second thing they should teach you is to push a little bit every week or so to increase the intensity of your exercise session, and it sounds like your PR did both. Now if they just were able to make the point that you need to keep it up every day, even when the sessions end, they really will have done their job well.
