I have a Shi-Tzu that is a great help to me. His name is Mr. Pippin. He is a true gentleman and a scholar. I have several other dogs and a cat that also are a great source of comfort and affection. ..docbtu
@A MyCOPDTeam Member It doesn't have to be an actual "therapy" pet, which is very costly and trained with respect to a specific medical condition. In my way of thinking it's a pet that gives us affection, emotional support. Dogs and cats from shelters/rescues can fill that need and provide the comfort we need. Take good care of yourself and breathe easy.
When my daughter was young and we were active in Girl Scouts, we used to take pets to local nursing homes through a society called Pet A Pet. They would screen the pets for approval and assign different homes to visit with them every Saturday. At the time, my mother was a home breeder, she bred Lhasa Opsos, so we were able to bring little puppies in. I will never forget, one day, there was a woman who the staff said would not eat or get out of bed, and was generally depressed and non responsive. We put a few puppies in her bed, they started interacting with her, and she sat up, smiled and played with them. She was so happy. The whole staff came in to see this, it was so uplifting!
@A MyCOPDTeam Member has a point, if you are worried about your kitty not eating and drinking, @A MyCOPDTeam Member, in addition to her not coming indoors. If Gorgeous is visiting other homes who think she is a stray or who leave food out for other animals, it could help make her want to stay outside too.
