What Do You Use To Open Up The Bronchioles Or Aveloi?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 96 year old mother has been on oxygen with a concentrator at night for 2 years now and it doesn't seem to get any better actually worse. I just moved the setting up to 2.5 rather than 2.0. She just tried Anoro but that just made her hands shake and the SOB seemed to be worse. She tried Advair in the past but her throat swelled a little and tongue turned yellow. Am working with the ARNP to see what's next but thought I would ask. Thanks, Claude

@A MyCOPDTeam Member as your mother is 96 she would require special monitoring, do you have a finger oximeter to check her sat limits ? I should think a chat with her Doctor on her behalf even a call to specialist is in order. Is she rinsing her mouth with water after each use of a inhaler ? All the best to you and your mom !

Oxygen all night makes me breathe worse in the morning when I get up.I tested it with and without, and what I think is happening to me is that I breathe more shallow at night with the oxygen on...My lungs forget to breath right. Also maybe try turning liter flow to one. of course check with Doc.

What we typically use to open up the airways is a bronchodilator, usually a Long Acting Beta Agonist (LABA). There are many of them, many are combined with other meds, but most are available individually. Unfortunately, that may be what's making your Mom shaky with the meds you've already tried. You may just have to keep trying until you find something that works. I'd have a discussion with the doc, and your Mom about what she's willing to put up with in order to breathe better.
