I'm considering using a walker. I hate this. Family are kind enough to drive me up to doors and pick me back up there but it's getting harder to get where I need to go inside buildings. I do ok shopping where they have carts to lean on but avoid other places.
Do most of you need assistance?
after my surgery this time I've had to use a walker, but we got a rollater, with a seat, and also brought the holder for the o2 tank on the side, its worked great, when you get tired you can just sit down and take a break, and much easyier than dragging that big o2 cylinder behind you, I still have to use in on my bad days, but I would recommend this type , still getting your eerise we need, and a place to rest if need, and a small basket to carry your things in coulnt as for much more, one quick note, make sure the wheels are at 7in, works so much better for curbs and such
If your issue is that you're so sob that walking is difficult and that's why you're thinking about a walker or wheelchair, I would recommend that you talk with your doc and ask about supplementary O2 and a pulmonary rehab program. Once we've quit smoking, exercise is the most important thing we can do for ourselves and pulmonary rehab is a way to learn how to exercise in a monitored setting with people who are experiencing the same things you are. If you need O2 to help you stay saturated, you'll find that moving isn't quite so difficult, and you'll know that even if you do get really SOB, you won't hurt yourself by working through it. The O2 will help you exercise harder, faster and longer and you'll be amazed at what a difference that will make with every day, ordinary chores, like going to the store. Instead of using a walker or wheelchair, you can choose to get stronger so you can go under your own steam.
Yes. I use the ride carts in the store. It is getting harder to get errands done. Some days I feel to weak/ tired to try .Everyday I tell myself , "get on the gazelle, Theresa." Some days it works, some days not so much.
In the past month I have not been able to walk any distance. I too get dropped if at the entrances to stores etc. I also will start to use a walker.
Yes, that would be frustrating. I'm thinking I would call ahead to remind them. That would be frustrating too. It sounds like a no win situation. I'm sorry. I will probably have that problem some day too.
The scooters are nice but not transporting them. They don't have a basket for loading purchases either.
Maybe we should make our voices heard! I do appreciate handicap parking though.
