A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

How often can I take sterioids? I am on the third prescription since the first of the year?

Jimma, if you want to stop, you can't just stop, you have to wean your way off them over time. If your doc doesn't know how to do that or is unwilling to help you, I really recommend finding a pulmonologist who will work with you instead of just telling you what to do. You deserve better than what you're getting right now.

Some people take low-dose steroids every day. Most of us try to avoid oral steroids as much as possible, but that involves getting over everything you catch and actually getting well and being able to do things to help yourself while you are well, like exercising. If you're having on-going exacerbations, you need to be talking with your pulmo about what treatments she can give you to help you get better and stay better in between them. There are a number of things to try. If your doc doesn't have any idea, you maybe need to find a good pulmonologist who can develop a good treatment plan for you. You'll have to do some of the heavy lifting, like exercising, but good meds can help you stay well enough to do that.
