I am having strange symptoms - when I go in to the rooms in my house I feel claustrophobic.I get panicky and feel like walls are closing in on me.

I can suffer from claustrophobia as well but I know what caused it. When I was 18 I was beat up and kicked out by my old man. He had help from one of my brothers. Well I couldn't afford a basement suite on my own so I shared with a guy in his late 30's. He was a drunk and he'd come home drunk and sneak into my room beating me up while I slept. I ended up jamming the door shut with a bread knife and climbing in and out of the window. Since then I can't sleep in real dark room with no light at all. In small rooms I am capable of anxiety attacks. In my house I like horizontal blinds as they provide privacy but I can see out through them. Being able to have some light from streetlights when bedroom curtains are open a bit makes a huge difference. If I wake during the night i can see stuff and it helps prevent panic attacks.
Some 20 years after being beat up in my sleep I went camping with a woman I was dating. We went in my truck and camper. During the night clouds can in and was very dark in the camper. I rolled over in my sleep and into the wall. It woke me up and I could see anything. I panicked and she woke up and touched my shoulder. I had taken some ju jitsu lessons and I went into automatic defense mode. I punched at her but missed by inches. I yelled at her "Don't touch me..I don't want to hurt you!" She asked what she could do and I told her "Turn on a flashlight or something just don't touch me...please don't touch me." She asked why and I told her "If you touch me I'll hit you and believe me I will!" I knew if I hit her I'd break bones. She turned a flashlight on and after a couple of minutes I explained what had happened.
I believe claustrophobia is an emotional response to flee or fight when feeling threatened. We have this as a survival instinct but we can learn what caused it and how to manage it.

I have the same problem with claustrophobia, can't close doors behind me
I have to sit down and take deep breaths till I calm down then continue on. The worse the disease get the worse the panicky attacks r. My doctor doesn't know what else to do for me. He can't give me the good drugs for that cuz it suppressed the Respitory system

I have that same problem, I can't close the door when I go to the bathroom or I have a panicky attack and any small spaces. I'm finding as my disease progresses my panicky attacks get more frequent and more severe. Its very scary. Does anyone have any remedies for this?
