Is It Normal To Have Trouble Breathing After Stopping Symbicort And Incruse?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was on symbicort and incruse for 4 years. I was getting terrible bruises so my doctor switched me to anoro. I am very short of breath. Should he have tapered me off the drugs rather than stop them?

Caroll, if you really believe that the Spiriva is doing nothing, talk with your doc about that. You could agree to not take it for a month and see what happens. If you see no difference in your breathing in that period of time, I suspect you can both agree that it isn't doing anything and you should quit using it. If you do notice a difference, then you've answered the question and can make a decision regarding to continue to use Spiriva or try one of the other LAMAs available to see if they work better.

My doctor kept me on the symbacort I guess it has more I believe she said steroids in it and felt I needed it. My symbacort is my life line. I notice it's hard to breathe if I'm late taking it or it's near time to take it. I will never give it up. I would gladly give up the spiriva don't even notice if I don't take it for a week. I swear it's a nothing drug and more than not I think the capsule is empty.

You were getting a LAMA, LABA and ICS with the combination of Symbicort and Incruse. Anoro just has the LABA and the LAMA. My guess is that your doc took advantage of the situation to see if you could do without the ICS, which is partially to blame for the bruises you were getting. It appears that you can't, so call your doc and let him know that you need the ICS. Maybe he can try on on a different one to see it your breathing improves without the bruising.

There's no reason to think that you should have been "tapered" from your inhalers. The only thing that requires a taper is oral steroids, not inhaled ones.

Hey Gwynne. Im sorry you are having a hard time. If I am late taking Symbicort I have a hard time breathing. I missed a dose and it caused a flare up. I don't know how they go about changing you from one to another. Maybe you can call him and ask. Take care. Others may have answers for you better than me. Blessings
