Do You Ever Wonder If You're Crazy?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was just reading some of the symptoms of COPD, and one of them was irritability. I didn't know that all this time! Sometimes I stop and think, Wait a minute, I pitched a fit about that yesterday. Why am I doing it again? Poor hubby! So I'm wondering, do you ever feel like you're losing it, or do you think probably you're no more loony than most people?

@A MyCOPDTeam Member....
It IS SOOOOO maddening when someone (especially FAMILY) basically treats you like you're WRONG when their memory of "that house, coat, birthday, holiday or event" is very very different.
I'm 62. Let me tell ya something, my sweet friend .... THIS happens in most families, even between siblings, also with friends, neighbors and co-workers. It's not just US and COPD is not a pre requisite!

I hope this makes you feel better and next time it happens you can take a couple of deep (as you can) breaths and just
Let IT Go..... We really cannot control how other people remember things....and it's ok if we remember differently too.
But yes, I absolutely understand.

Try to substitute a happy thought or force yourself to look at something beautiful next time you are angry about something you cannot change....something you can no longer do....
You can make a running list of that stuff, as they occur, put it away and
re-train your brain.
Ok?
Our job is to be gentle with ourselves. We need to treat ourselves as kindly as we would a friend coming over for dinner and or a movie...

Above all else, keep it simple!!! Please find something or SOMEONE to laugh at each and every day!

I hope you can start looking for and finding some good, Debbie. It takes some work. You can do it.
Hugs, hon... I have felt all the ways you do.
SuZz

I get irritable some days and I try to stay away from people I care about so I don't open mouth and insert foot,i get irritable because I cant do the simple things I did without thinking all my life. Its part of the disease.

It's mentally taxing to live with a chronic condition, let alone the immediate panicky feelings brought on by breathlessness. Here's a useful link that will show you how a doc may see it.

I don’t think any of us are crazy but I’m sure our Drs do when we try to tell them what is going on. Even in the Dr office I could NOT say a short sentence without breathing in between words. Wheezing so bad I thought I was gong to keel over. I had my o2 next to me but she was positive that because I was showing 91 I was faking it. I tried to show her that when I put o2 on within a min I wasn’t wheezing and could say a full sentence. Refused to order me o2 (I was on a rented one because it took 3 mos to get in to see her) scheduled some tests that finally all got done 6 mos later and decided I was 3rd stage COPD. My point is they don’t know Jack S about how COPD affects any of us because we are all different. They only go by the insurance books not by how we feel or what we say even sitting in front of them. So I do what I know I should do to the best of my ability. I apologize a lot for being slow or resting a lot but I wake up every morning like I don’t have a death sentence over my head and put one foot in front of the other. My house is not sparkling I don’t make 3 meals a day I pass up going out a lot but I AM WOMAN😂😂😂I AM STRONG🤣🤪🤣🤪 ALL OF US CAN DO IT❤️

Part and parcel of the disease, of all things tough in life. Anxiety causes irritability. Life causes irritability! LOL! I know that you know this already, dear friend. When I get like that, I try to start numbering in my head all of the good things (especially the little things) in my life. The new rose outside...the bird that's sitting on that bush almost assuredly looking right at me...a warm cup of coffee..a good Bible verse that really strikes home...or maybe a cozy little TV show. If I've hollered at hubby, I apologize. Getting better at that one, as I can be a stubborn!
I guess we've got to go through the big and small crap down here on Earth, as part of making us 'Holy Like Him' to be able to coexist with Him (as He can't abide sin). It toughens our character. Still, it's such a pain at times, in so?
Thank you for sharing your heart, hon...as it made me feel 'normal' on when I get those feelings. Sending love and hugs and Our Sweet Lord's Blessings your way on this fine Monday. God's Got This!
