It depends a bit, like most things. Sweets are carbohydrates and for some of us, carbs make it harder to breathe, especially empty carbs: white bread, sugar, etc. Some people don't seem to have that much of a problem with them, but lots just aren't good for you whether you have COPD or not. Most dietary suggestions for people with COPD are to stick to a Mediterranean diet: heavy on vegetables, fruits, small amounts of red meat, lots of chicken and fish, whole grains. etc. Stay away from empty calorie carbs: candy, donuts, loaded baked potatoes, pizza, and all the other things that aren't good for you.
@ DaleShillings That all depends on whether you are a Diabetic or not.
I am a type 2 diabetic with a sweet tooth and as such am not supposed to have sweets or biscuits [both tend to ruin blood sugars lol as result they effect what my medication is [only with inhalers and Nivi machine at night ]
That means I have to use my releiver [Ventoline] more than I should and that means I have to spend a bit longer on the Nivi machine overnight.
I hope that helps a bit
Breathe easy , Stay Safe , Sane ??? and smiling
Nightly dish of ice cream a nice reward and a buffer for my husbands night meds. He is underweight so calories are not a problem.
