I went to the ER a month ago because I was spitting up blood, had tightness in my chest, trouble breathing and an irregular heart beat.
While there I had a CT scan that showed mild centrilobular emphysema.
My PCP referred me to a pulmonologist for a full PFT. My results came back normal.
Most of my symptoms have gone away but I still spit up some blood here and there and I also still have an irregular heart beat and weird feeling on the left side of my chest.
My main question is do I really… read more
I know pet scans are the best, but they are expensive. See if your insurance will cover it. Ask Dr. for a referral.
I was told a couple days ago that I have emphysematous changes in the apex of both lungs.. they noted that they are mild. On my pulmonary function test (before I knew the results of the ct scan) it showed moderate obstruction and decreased diffusion capacity.. I have not seen a pulmonologist yet. I am very scared. . I am only 31 years old.. I am curious if this means that I DEFINITELY have mild emphysema ? And when someone has mild emphysema are they diagnosed as mild COPD or moderate COPD or… read more

Has anyone been diagnosed with Bullous Emphysema?
I have been diagnosed with bullous emphysema, three years ago it went to a severe level. I do all I can to keep it in check an not progress any further.
Is it experimental
Stage IV specific?
… researching this online through reputable sites, BMJ (or British Medical Journal, which has now become a research validation site) seems to have the first white paper on this topic, although other sites are dancing around this, too.

Hello: I've been getting CT scans for about 6 years to rule out hereditary lung cancer (paternal side of family). All scans have come back no issues annually. This week however, my ct scan results showed this "background emphysematous change"; then my doctor added the note "CT Scan shows emphysema". I'm a bit freaked out right now as my knowledge of this illness is that it's a death sentence. I do have a lot of wheezing and have had this for about the last year. However, I can walk a couple of… read more

I took a CT SCAN CHEST/HRCT. " both lungs are fully expanded and appear clear. there are scattered emphysematous changes present, but no large bullae are identified. there are no pulmonary nodules or masses present. there is no evidence of interstitial fibrosis and no evidence of any bronchiectatic changes identified. no pulmonary nodules or masses are identified. the mediastinum and hilar regions appear clear. no evidence of any pleural effusions. mild spondylotic changes are noted within the… read more
Hey Troy. Wondering how you are doing? You are on my team, right. Hope all is well. I'd BLESS Carrie
My primary care physician saw no need to make a referral to a pulmonologist and said that CT scans were not used to diagnose emphysema which I know is not correct. When I contacted the radiologist's office they told me to discuss the scan with my primary physician. I am inclined to simply schedule an appointment with a pulmonologist without a referral and have the scan sent to him/her. I would like to know whether I have emphysema and more details about the extent of lung damage. Is this my best… read more

Hello all, new to the forum. I am typing this for my Dad (he is not very tech savvy) who is 74 years old, has smoked all his life (recently cut down quite a bit since he was diagnosed with COPD last year) and has wheezing, shortness of breath and fatigue. He is not on oxygen as of yet. He still has to see a Pulmonologist but just got the results back from his CT scan stating he has severe emphysematous changes. Does this mean he has severe emphysema? What should he expect from the Pulmonologist… read more
