Is It Safe To Go Sit On My Sisters Patio When Self Isolating.
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

My lung function is 33% so I’ve got to self isolate. My family gets my groceries etc,.I’ve not been out since March. With the warm weather would it be safe to go sit on my sisters patio with safe distancing in place.I would just sit on my walker and take my own drink. My sister also hasn’t been out but my brother-in-law goes for their shopping etc,.It’s such a worrying time.I hope you all stay safe.I was also looking up masks because someone made me one but I can’t breathe in it.I was looking at… read more

You'll have to make your own decision about when and under what circumstances you can see people. You'll have to take into consideration who your family members have seen and where they might have come in contact with someone who is infected with the disease, how good they are about taking precautions and wearing masks in public, how good their hand-washing and other personal hygiene habits are, etc. If you feel comfortable with all those things, then you'll make one decision; if not, you'll make another one. I would also consider how you will get to your sister's. If you can walk there that's one thing, but if you have to ride in a car with someone that's a different story.

All that said, it's certainly better to be outside than inside if you have the choice. As for masks, remember, the reason people wear them is to avoid giving anything to you or you to them. Your mask isn't going to protect you from anything if they have the virus. Their mask may keep the virus from spreading into the air if they have it. My lung function is about where yours is and I use a large bandanna. It's not easy to breathe using it, but it's better than the ones that fit under your chin.

These are difficult times and there are difficult decisions to make. Good luck with this one.

So, @A MyCOPDTeam Member, what's your plan IF you need to use sister's bathroom while you are there?
Are your cel phones able to do FACETIME or Zoom?
The only person I have spent 1 on 1 face to face in person time with since March, is my son who takes my grocery list and shops for me on Sundays. I am STARVED for hugs, as we have ALWAYS, ALWAYS hugged good bye and sometimes hugged HELLO.....
He does wear a mask....he does wear gloves, we wipe the groceries down with Lyson wipes and then he cleans my home for me.

My karma is pretty dang good...!
Love you all....
SuZz
PS. That Lone Ranger was ahead of his time! ((NICE mask!))

I visit my sister a couple times a week, but she lives right next door. She is careful with whom she comes in contact with, she has a weakened immune system. Her daughter is helping take care of her, and she is very careful. Of course her dog doesn't like having to wait to get attention, but will not give her attention until the hand sanitizer evaporates.

I agree with Philpalm you have to be very very careful right now. Not to be negative or anything but we just can't be wrong we can't laugh and say OOP's shouldn't have done that. Please be careful for just a little while longer we can look back on it later and say whew I made it.
