I’m Just Looking For Some Thoughts On A Couple Of Questions.
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

The restaurant I work at has recently reopened and although they r having staff wear masks and limiting certain aspects of service I’m a little anxious and not sure if I should go back yet
I’m also wondering what others are doing in regards to self isolation? I have been very careful about social distancing to this point but now that we are in phase 2 with a few things opening up and people getting together in small groups, is it relatively safe to get together with 1 or 2 friends providing I… read more

There aren't any right answers here. Regardless of what course of action you take, it could turn out to be "wrong". You could go out to do something that seems pretty safe and you could contract the virus, or you could stay home and continue isolation and then decide that it was a silly thing to do, based on the fact that no one in your community was diagnosed with it. It's one of those things where you won't know until you do it whether it was "right" or not.

You're going to have to assess things for yourself and come to a decision that seems right for you. There are certainly things to consider. First, if you do go out, wear a mask. IT'S NOT FOR YOU. It's to be sure you don't pass something along to someone else. You could be an asymptomatic carrier and give it to everyone you see. So it's the courteous and considerate thing to do FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

You need to think about yourself. What are your co-morbidities? You have COPD, so that's one. What about diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, other heat issues, high cholesterol, still smoking, just name a few of the more common ones? If you have diabetes and are overweight, you probably want to stay home because those are the two conditions that make you far more vulnerable to having bad complications if you do get the virus.

Think about the people you'll come in contact with. Do you trust that they have been as careful as they should be? What about family, grandkids, friends, etc.? Do they work and have contact with the public? If you're going to a restaurant, are the servers wearing masks and cleaning like crazy between customers? Is the restaurant really practicing social distancing? If you're going to a hair salon for that haircut I'd kill for right now, are they using hair dryers? If so, go home. Hair dryers will blow the virus everywhere.

If you decide to go out or stay home, more power to you and I hope you stay safe and healthy.

I must go to the bank today; can't keep putting off. I'll be dealing with the manager and she will have a shield in front of her desk; I hope she'll be wearing a mask, but I won't push that. I'll be wearing a mask and gloves and clean up everything as best I can before I even get back in the car. This is about the best I can do, but since banks are the most irresponsible business I've been in lately, I'm prepared to walk out of there if I feel particularly unsafe. I'm going to thank her as soon as we meet for helping me be careful, because I'm a very high risk person with co-morbidities. That's about the best I can do. Thank you for your input, @A MyCOPDTeam Member.

Hi Christinahk. I went out to a cafe with a friend yesterday for the first time,I didnt wear a mask but kept my distance from others as much as possible, was able to sit well away from others.I do feel a bit nervous being out but I guess we have to get out and about sometime. I think we did the right thing here in NZ. hardly any covid cases here now.I just hope the Govt keeps doing the right thing with our borders.

Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feelings with input from your doctor.

Our instructions get vague at times. I'm not talking about anybody in particular, just that we don't always know who has the definitive answers. But, my understanding is that seniors with medical complications are supposed to stay indoors till Phase 3. However, many of us have fudged some, myself included.
