Found a site discussing the Zephyr Valve for people with severe emphysema. Sounds so promising. Discussed with my GP an he thought I would be an excellent candidate. I see pulmonologist on the 15th of March and will discuss with him. Just wondered if any of you have already looked in to this.
The valves, vents, coils, etc. have been in clinical trials in the US for the last 20 years. The Zephyr valves were approved by the FDA in July of 2018 after being used in Europe for more than 10 years. The Spiration valves were approved about a year later, so now there are two. You must qualify for the valves by going through a thorough evaluation process involving a number of different tests, but if you are considered to be a good candidate, you will be able to learn more about the procedure and decide whether you want to pursue it. I'd definitely find a center that does the procedure and get tested. Even if you don't qualify, you will have tests that you'd likely not get under other circumstances and learn a lot about yourself and your COPD if you ask questions.
Did you have it done? How did it work out?
After you had it done? Both lungs?
Breathing got worse and using more oxygen than before.
Yes. Im hoping to be a canadate. One more test and possibly surgery in April. I'm sorry Tracy they were of no help. You never saw any improvement?
