What are the symptoms of a COPD flare up?? I've been really coughing and the gunk sticks in my throat thus I have the feeling that I am choking and then I throw up afterwards.
Shirley, you don't need a breathing test to be treated for an exacerbation. As a matter of fact, a breathing test then would show you at your worst, and could be significantly different once you've recovered.
I would not wait until tomorrow you should go too the ER and get checked out as the phlegm can be very dangerous along with breathing an coughing so hard, Be very careful with those symptoms the last time I waited it turned into the beginning of pneumonia as the phlegm started too thicken up and I went down hill from there. Please Be Safe Sweetie
An exacerbation, or "flare-up" is defined as an increase in your everyday COPD symptoms that requires medical intervention (increase in meds or new meds) to resolve. If you're coughing way more than usual, this could be a symptom of an exacerbation. Suggest you call your doc and at least talk with the on-call person about what you're experiencing. If that doesn't work, try an urgent care clinic or the ER.
That could be a flare up. You need to get ahold of your doctor. Keep track of how much and how often the phlegm is coming up and the color of it.
Try to have a good night. Do some breathing exercise as well.
