When people have multiple exacerbations in a year and hospitalizations, too, many pulmonologists consider prescribing one of two meds: roflumilast (Daliresp) or azithromycin three times a week; sometimes every day. Both meds have been clinically proven to reduce exacerbations and hospitalizations. Both are used for their anti-inflammatory properties, so the fact that azithromycin is an antibiotic isn't why it's used. So yes, being prescribed azithromycin either three times a week or every day is a perfectly acceptable treatment and much needed for some people.

My husband hasn’t had an exacerbation since he starting taking Daliresp. It works!

Yes steroids and antibiotics, here too. But don’t let them keep you on them long term.
