You do need to be evaluated and they need to decide that you're a good candidate for the procedure. Be sure you check to see it the person doing the procedure has been trained and find out how many procedures they've done. You don't want to be the first!
Major adverse events have occured; mostly pneumothoraxes and pneumonia. Most people get over these fairly well, but some don't. Find out what your surgeon's success rate is.
I quit once for about 14 months than gradually went back to it. Doc said that was extremely hard on my lungs since they were healing. Now I've quit again but too late, damage is done. My older sister has COPD and never smoked anything!
You have have a severe case. I just got diagnosed with mild emphysema on May 2021. I still go to the gym. I quit smoking 10 years ago before getting diagnosed with mild emphysema with a CT scan they were looking for lung cancer but didn't find any.....I never knew I had emphysema. I am glad I found out.
