How to lip pursing exercises
I think you're talking about pursed lip breathing. It's a breathing technique where you exhale for at least twice as long as you exhale. The biggest problem with COPD is that we don't exhale long enough to get all the stale air out of our lungs to make room for O2. This exercise helps us do that. You inhale for a count of 1, 2 and then, pursing your lips as if you were going to blow on hot soup, exhale for a count of 1, 2, 3, 4. You can do 3 and 6 or 4 and 8; whatever you're comfortable with that works for you. You don't want to blow out too hard; don't blow the soup all over the table!
This is one of the most important things to learn if you have COPD. Practice it daily until you do it automatically. Always do it when you're moving around. It will help you avoid getting short of breath quite so quickly and will keep you going even if you are sob.
