Yes, thank you. I have realized that though I have had a few xrays, and a ct scan, not once has a Dr, gone over it with me. I have done alot of research on my own. You can see emphysema on e\xray and better on ct scan. I want to see it. For example, it is bullae in your lung that is hyperinflated. The Zephyr valves deflate the hyper inflated portions of lung tissue, allowing the healthier portions to function better. It works best if ther is mostly upper portion damage. People have gotten off of oxygen with this treatment. I really need a better pulmonologist.
You can certainly have dogs and cats with COPD. Joanne C has given you good advice. If you've always had animals, nothing really has changed. If you've never had animals and now want to try, you may be asking for difficulties, but nothing says you can't try. Just be prepared to find that things don't work out; that way you won't be too disappointed if that happens. If not, enjoy your fur baby!
Oh, @A MyCOPDTeam Member, I am so sorry to hear you had to give up your dog - tough on both of you. I hope he finds a good home.
Any chance you’ll try again with an older dog? I hear there’s more availability as the shelters are overrun again. Hugs to you, whatever you decide to do.
I guess dogs and cats (and birds) are ok. There are also air filters.
My husband and I both have COPD and we are both on oxygen now. We have two female dachshunds that we have had for years before our breathing got bad enough for oxygen. For us giving up cigaretts helped our breathing . I don't know if our dogs have any bearing on our breathing.
