But now I regularly get swollen lips but goes down after a course of prednisone. I also experienced regular night sweats although it winter here. I have also put on much weight around my tummy now looks like a ball. Please advise it these are all part of my condition. I once had a very active life but now it's really hard for me to do even home chores due the aches from my arthritis and osteoporosis. I'm only 53 and I am open to suggestions especially my pain and insomnia. Note I also have… read more

The Ultibro is a combination inhaler, with both a LAMA and a LABA, both bronchodilators; they just work on different receptors. The additional inhaler many people have is an inhaled corticosteroid, which usually takes care of inflammation in the lungs. The fact that you're getting swollen lips that respond to prednisone is a sign of an allergic reaction to something; whether it's any of these meds or something else is up for discovery. I would suggest that you and your doc try other LAMA/LABA combinations such as Anoro or Stiolto and see if you still get the swollen lips. The prednisone is probably responsible for some weight gain, but my guess is that inactivity is also partly responsible.

I don't know whether you're seeing a pulmonologist, but if not, please find one. If your current doc is a pulmo, I'd suggest seeing someone else for a second opinion. Part of that second opinion should be a consultation with a good rheumatologist to coordinate your COPD issues with your arthritis and osteoporosis concerns. One of the things missing is any exercise, so a consultation with a good PE who can give you an exercise routine that will help with your arthritis and osteoporosis and give you enough aerobic activity to help your COPD would be very helpful.

I'm in the same boat, more or less, but have learned to live with it. At my age I'm thankful for every little blessing. This site is a huge plus in my life; most folks are a blessing and make it easier to cope with the COPD.

Hi Diana. Im so sorry your exsperance the stmptoms you have the first thing i would say is that steeroids have a tendency to put weight on, i can sympathise re Arthritis but its important to slow down the progresion of your Lung Disease so please dont give up on exercise at your own pace.
