Any One Ever Consider Donating An Organ Or Do You Think I Would Be Disqualified Because Of Having A Lowered Immune System?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a friend whose wife needs a kidney and he isn't able and he is hoping to find someone to give one. I have been considering it but wonder about the lowered immune system with copd.

You are a vet also I go to the hospital at Martinsburg WV. They are wonderful but now with my breathing getting worse and allergies it has become a hassle to get there as my wife has rheumatoid arthritis.

I do plan to ask my Dr but I am a vet and use the VA in a remote area and I can't just walk in. I was just curious. My Dr did already tell me that my immune system is impared which is why I was wondering. Thank you for your answer.
My EFV1 is only 15% and I do get sick quite easily. Come to think of it knowing this already I guess I shouldn't have even considered the idea. Thank you Jean. I added you to my team.

Why do you think your immune system is impaired? COPD doesn't necessarily result in that, although some of the co-morbidities might. The only way to know whether you could donate an organ is to talk to your doc and find out.
