Does Anyone Else Suffer From Chronic Constipation And Excess Gas?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I take several medications for my breathing and other medical conditions that have caused me to develop severe constipation and have excess gas on my stomach. I am wondering if anyone else is having the same problems and what they are doing for relief. Many thanks

My doctor said our sternum is getting squished by our over inflated lungs so we feel like we have a brick in our stomachs. I burp real loud too & i blame it on my sister or who ever is with me.

Constipation is a big problem with COPD. Because you can't just stop taking your medication, you will need to work on your diet instead. My dietician put me on the FODMAP diet. Google it. Many hospitals are recommending this scientific diet for IBS, which I have. It is not for weight loss, but for relief of those nasty bloating and constipation conditions. So, just do it. It works. For better results, don't forget to exercise daily to keep the blood and oxygen flowing through the colon. In fact, do 5 push ups right NOW!

Use miralax. You can put it in any liquid and there is no taste to it

I also take probiotics i feel it help regulates me. As for the gas i grab onto a table and do a squat. I do stay in the squat position until the gas is released. Then i use the table to pull myself up. It may not get all the gas but it helps.
