If you start very small you can do it. Pick something that is a challenge, but is doable, like walking around the house. Do it a several times a day until it becomes easier and then gradually add to your exercise level. I guarantee you it will help your breathing! I have very sever copd....am on oxygen and I spend an hour at the gym every day, ride my horses, and do everything else I need to do. Granted, I don't do it as fast as I used to, but hey, it still gets done and I find that after moving around my breathing is MUCH better!

I have depression also I fight COPD and Diabetis and Epilepsy . I have to talk myself out of it a lot of times. It is not easy having a lot on your plate. exercise is one thing that by going slow is now starting to be relaxing plus it gets the heart beating in the way that is good for ya.I have had cancer of the lung also that was scary and very hard to keep spirits up on high. I have 2 years cancer free in now. My favorite saying is never give up. I pray say never give up often and try to take care of me with no wondering what is going to happen for I have gave that up to the lord and it really does help. for those that don't believe in a higher power just keep saying never give up keep trudging along and don't dwell on bad memories only look forward to good ones

Dear Leeanne,
I found a tape you can do for exercise that is made by Suzanne Andrews called Functional Fitness. It is for people with COPD and Asthma issues. At least it gets us moving and will make you feel so much better. Let me know if you need more info.

I understand what you mean about the weight gain and depression. I have been dealing with both. As far as the depression mine was so overwhelming they put me on welbutrin. I am starting to notice a difference. As far as the weight gain I go back to the doctor in July and going to talk to him about getting into pulmonary rehab. That should help with the weight. I am hoping. I am just so restricted on what I am able to do it worries me that I wont be able to do the exercises. But I am willing to give it a chance. Take care and breathe easy!

I do believe that anything that gets us to move alittle more each day will benefit us in the long run. I love to garden but living in Idaho winters are out. So a have a few plants I start with and by summer they are ready to be put in ground. It's great for my mood and mind. Everyone please have a wonderful day!
