No, it's not. I have friends who need upward of 15 lpm to exercise. So 3 is not a lot.

Personally, I think docs who prescribe O2 using a certain number of lpms don't understand how people function and how they use O2 just in general, whether it's supplementary O2 or room O2. The number of lpms you use just sitting ought to be quite different from the number of lpms you use when active. Unless your doc follows you around with an oximeter, s/he has absolutely no idea of your need for O2 under the circumstances of your life. I've gotten my doc to agree that I need to keep my O2 saturation levels between 94 and 97 and I can use any liter flow necessary to achieve that, based on my oximeter readings.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member I tried to get my doctor to raise mine. He said I would have to have a blood gas test because it can cause carbon dioxide to build up.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member:....That solely depends on the individuals need for o2
my normal setting is 2 When i eat a good sized meal I set it on 21/2. To3 litres for about a half hour, during an after eating. It helps take the load off your lungs while going into stomach,an digestion. At bedtime I set my o2 at a little over 2 litres, in the morning before I getup I check my o2 leval, its been consistent at 97-98, so I may turn it down to 2 here soon!!!...We are all different, we must always check ourselves, an stay on top of our situation....♏
