No u don't need a attorney but very difficult without one. Remember he doesn't get paid unless you win and he will do wonders. They get a certain % or up to so much money decieded by the court. The first time I apply in IN was denied. Got an attorney and won the second time. The general rule of thumb is are you still able to do work that you have done in past. Being over 55 helps to and over 60 also. Yes, you can go to website and look up a general account. Good luck.
I got it in 2010 ssdi for my copd in3months
Good advice on the lawyer JeffKendall. Also if the u want to do it urself the 1st time & denied thats when I would consult a lawyer as u only have 3 times to apply for ssi I think. I am on it & have COPD & have had three stents put in my heart but I applied after I almost died from a bad COPD attack. had heartattack in Oct then the following April addmitted to hospital stay was 4/30-5/17. Most in ICU So in June I applied & was approved but had to wait 5 months for any money then u have to be on it 2 yrs for Medicare to kick in. WA state (where I live) helped me until I started receiving money from SSI. Wish u luck on applying & getting approval!!
No you don't need an attorney, but you do need to know the rules. Go to the SSDI website and look up the criteria for COPD.
