What Is Demissioning Lung?

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Kettering, OH

I was told I have a demissioning lung? I was wondering what it is. I had such a migraine and took some meds to make me sleepy, so I didn't get a chance to ask my nurse what that is. So could some one please answer me. But otherwise my lungs sounds good.
Also does anyone know any sit down exercises that I could do. Because walking makes my lower back hurt really bad.
I would appreciate an answer.
Thanks
Hugs

Lung sounds are important in that the doc can tell when your lungs are compromised. They also learn what your lungs sound like when you're feeling good, so they can tell if you're sick or getting sick. As for what you can do, there are some possibilities that may help. Remember you can't undo the damage to your lungs that's already there. What you can do is make your lungs more efficient by really working them.

That involves an exercise program, for which you need to consult your doc. You need to ask if there's any reason why you can't exercise and make sure you know what your ,imitations are while exercising: heart rate, O2 saturation levels, hip or knee replacement that might limit certain movements, etc. The next thing to understand is that everyone can exercise in some way, no matter how bad your COPD is. Unless you're confined to your bed, you can exercise. Ask about pulmonary rehabilitation. If that's a possibility, jump at it. If not, talk about beginning your own program.

Use your O2, if it's been prescribed. Crank it up so that your saturation levels are good while you exercise. I like mine to be 94 - 97 for exercise. Remember that you goal is to build endurance, so you want to go for time. Slow way down; if you don't you'll run out of air in the first 30 seconds. You're shooting for 30 minutes non-stop. Work up to that gradually.

Exercise that makes you huff and puff and sweat will help make your lung function more efficient and may very well increase your breath sounds.

Diminished lung capacity means you do not breath with your whole lung at this point. Some inhalers help to improve that.
