Thankyou I also didn't know there are 4stages of copd if not more will be going to my GP and asking him a few questions thankyou for your help
The issue when flying is how do you respond to high altitude and will you need O2 to keep your sats at a reasonable level during flight. Planes are only pressurized to something between 8000 and 10000 feet. Most of us with COPD don't do well at those altitudes and need supplemental O2 to maintain our saturation levels. Talk with your doc before you fly to determine whether or not it's recommended that you use O2 in flight. If not, then buy your ticket and off you go. If you do, then you need to figure out how much O2 you'll need and find a POC that will produce what you need that's approved by the FAA. After that, you'll need to find out what the airline you're flying requires and jump through those hoops. It's not hard to fly with O2, I do it a couple times a month, but it does take information, follow-through and knowledge.
Yes I do i have flown to Seattle and NH no problem
Emirates Airlines fly you at no charge for oxygen if you have a Lung Disease...They supply everything and that is with a recommendation letter from your treating GP or Pulmonary Specialist....We find our Bank offers the best and safest policy re Travel insurance...
My friend who is not on oxygen but is very close to being put on it just flew Australia to UK plus 5 hr stopover. BTW I am talking if you are not on oxygen and can handle not needing it constantly......but want to be safe....Usually a Flight Simulation Test will point out if you will need it.....
For the most part it is ok HOWEVER they recommend speaking to you pulmonoligist TYPE in your question is it safe to fly with COPD the answers were to long for me to post BUT YOU WILL SEE AN ANSWER
