How Do I Get Rid Of Animal Distressing My Breathing?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

OK we have a dog named Bella. We have had her since she was a year old (7 yrs now). I really have never been a big animal person and my husband had dogs growing up. I didn't have a clue what to do with her when we got her. She wasn't potty trained and is a runner. I don't know if my husband knows, or was just too lazy, how to potty train her. My problem is she has peed ALL over my house and of course it is now deep in the carpet. He continues to clean up after her but now with my COPD I really… read more

We have 2 dogs, and they will come down stairs at night sometimes and make a mess. I use to put the doggie pads down, but now I just put a piece of tarp down in the living room. If they decide to come down and make a mess, at least it is on the tarp and not on the carpet, much easier to clean up and no smell in the carpet. I found it getting quite expensive buying puppy pads all the time, and I already had the tarp. Hope all works out for you.

My Sister in Law put puppy pads down & trained her dogs to go on those. then she gradually moved them towards the door a little tiny bit every week. Then finally ended at the door. My daughter taught her dog to use a bell that she kept hooked up to her door & her doggy would ring that when he had to go. Any time that dog ever had a mistake it was because they didn't pay attention to the bell. But if hubby won't teach her, I would use the pads. White Vinegar also helps get rid of animal smells in a hurry. you said that you couldn't afford wood floors, but what about Linoleum? they aren't as expensive, don't gather bad smells unless someone never mops. I love using Vinegar. My youngest daughter hates it even though the smell dissapates into the air.
I used a lot of natural cleaners when she was growing up & we had bad wood floors in that rental. I could pour peroxide all over the floors & the floors would boil up a storm. It really worried me living in that house. So glad we aren't there anymore.

..pee train your poor dog you have had for 7 years..they are not throwaways ....the dog is a member of your household...get it trained or do it yourself...why in the world did you wait so long???im sure a pro can clean the carpets..but im not sure you or your hubby will follow thru with the dog walking or letting it outside to do its business. looks like you would have some help there by your pic. good luck...and prayers for the dog.

@ LibbyHickey, A professional carpet cleaner will not be able to get the odor out of the carpet because it goes down into the padding that is under the carpet. First thing I would do is hire a professional dog trainer that will work with your dog and potty train her. 2. You have to get rid of the carpets. Once she has been trained you won't have a problem again but if you keep the old carpets there, once she's trained she's going to smell her scent which may intice her to pee on the carpet again. It's definitley causing you breathing problems You can go to an allergist and get tested and see if you are allergic to dogs, their dander etc.. and if you are you can give the results to your husband. Then he can't deny your problem anymore, but there is no guarantee that he will do what you suggest.I wish you the best and please keep us posted
