Hi Eileen,
There is a small gadget on the market, I have one , it tells you your oxygen blood level and your heart rate,
95 percent is quite good, other people are right when they say if your oxygen level goes below 88 then you qualify for oxygen therapy , I smoked for many years and ended up the same as you, they gave me a chest x-ray and found scare tissue from smoking, this lead to COPD.. check your phlegm in the mornings, if it is discoloured and there is a lot of it then you may have a lung infection , this has to be treated right away , else you will get worse, see your doctor immediately , may I please suggest you start with an x-ray.
Breath easy.
Peter.

Waterboy is right. Get an oximeter. If your O2 sats go lower than 88 at rest of with exertion, you qualify for O2. Talk with your doc about your sats and when they go down. Ask for the walking test to see if you need O2 and if your doc doesn't know what that is or how to do it, find another one!

First get a good pulse oximeter, watch your O2 level, get tested for O2 levels awake and asleep.... you can get an oximeter that will record, then download to puter and print reports..... I have one it is a good investment.

Remember a high percentage of deaths from COPD come from heart problems. When your O2 level is low, your heart has to work harder to maintain.

Again I will mention I am no MD, nurse, or care provider. I try to educate myself and I ask questions. I also am in my 2nd clinical trial at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.... a 320 mile round trip. I strongly reccomend these trials to you... you can learn alot about your condition, and more importantly help those behind you.

Hi Eileen,
Its a pleasure to help in any way I can , I am not qualified in any medical way, in fact the only qualification I have is the fact , that like you I also have COPD, I suppose in some small way this qualifies me to remark on this condition.
The only other thing I can speak about with any authority is Crohns disease, this is a nasty disease.
Ok must dash got to finish a painting.
Breath easy.
Peter.
