My wife and I began researching the condition and found that one of the top docs for it was at the University of Chicago. We went to see him. He couldn't believe the meds… read more

It sounds like you are very lucky. I got sick in NYC and was lucky enough to have doctors from NY Presbyterian. The doctor I have now is wonderful and he keeps me out of the hospital.

Seems in America things are done very different to the uk, we get a GP who practice will be in your part of town, who will send you to a specialist if he can't deal with your problems, it is just taken for granted everyone wll get the same treatment no matter what hospital you go to or what doctor you see, there seems to be a standard set of treatments with standard waiting times at each hospital, with no doctor being better or worse than the other, except in very few cases, in those few cases you can ask for a second oppinion, you will then see another doctor who will probably agree with the first doctor anyway. Thats how the NHS works, the government pays the hospitals a set fee to treat everyone, same as GP who also gets paid a set fee for each person on his list, so we don't get a choice we take the GP or consultant we are given. Although the NHS is an excellent thing, the government sometimes decides the medication cost
